Queensland Flood Relief Concert
Sunday February 6, Marrickville Town Hall, 6.30pm.
Pacific Opera young Artists Taryn Shroj, Paul Smith, Emily Edmonds, Sarah Ann Walker, Carli Walker, Amanda Windred, and Amanda Wagg will be joining forces with many of Sydney’s leading musicians and conductors to perform in this unique concert to celebrate the community spirit of Queenslanders. The line up includes Emma Matthews, principal soprano with Opera Australia, Artistic Director of Espresso Chorus and the Carols on Norton, Michelle Leonard; Marrickville Symphony; Brett Weymark (courtesy of Sydney Philharmonia Choirs) and Composer and Sydney Chamber Choir Conductor Paul Stanhope. Amongst the orchestral musicians are Sydney Symphony Orchestra principal trumpet Paul Goodchild, Sydney Symphony Orchestra principal first violinist Kirsten Williams, saxophonist Christina Leonard, composer and pianist Sally Whitwell, soprano Nadia Piave, composer and pianist Luke Byrne, The Song Company tenor Richard Black, soprano solists Josie Ryan and many others.
The program is an exciting mix of the classic and the modern, from Benjamin Britten to Haydn and Australian composer Dan Walker.
“It’s vital at this time for musicians to share what they do to help the flooded communities of Queensland” says the Artistic Director of the Leichhardt Espresso Chorus Michelle Leonard.
“This concert is a message of support from the Inner West, in a musical portrayal of the Queenslanders’ spirit and resilience. It will also be a really positive life affirming evening with a massed choir of singers from all over Sydney and moments of quiet repose.”
Marrickville Council and Leichhardt Council are generously supporting the event. All funds raised are for the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal.
